Today we’d like to introduce you to Jean-PierrJean-Pierre Verdijo is an artist from New York, currently working out of Austin, TX. His work involves painting, sculpture, and collages of what he calls significant papers, newsprint, maps, candy wrappers - see for yourself @artofjeanpierre on Instagram.  He sat down to talk with us about how artists from the past and present (and especially Basquiat) have influenced his work.e Verdijo.

Creativity is actually everywhere. Whether it’s a custom-made wall hanging in a local cafe or beautiful blue velvet couch at your favorite hotel, it’s amazing how many unique elements of art and design we pass by every day. However, when these things catch our eye, we’re left wondering: “Who made it?” “What’s the story?” and “Where can I find more?”

Wescover connects the people, places, and stories behind design objects that impact our everyday lives. Here, each item has context like you’d find in a gallery—from who the original Creator is, to what the story was behind it, to where you can see their work in the real world.

Scratching Surfaces

Beyond the Bio is a series that takes you past the canvas and into the minds of the artists and curators who build the contemporary arts community.

Even before the Rosetta Stone announced the coronation of King Ptolemy V, art has announced and commemorated great historical events. Perhaps the success of a crowdfunding effort for OAuth2 Apache plugins is not as noteworthy as the establishment of a divine cult for a new ruler. But for geeks in two-thousand years, who knows… maybe it will be a pivotal event! With that somewhat ridiculous idea in mind, I asked Jean Pierre Verdijo, an Austin painter, to work on a commemorative art series that would provide an update to the 2011 Artista Family Tree painting (see below): (1) one for Gluu (2) one for Falcon Systems Consulting of Japan, who was the largest sponsor of the crowdfunding, and (3) one for auction to the community.
